Yellow is a tricky thing, very easily it can swing from brown to green with variants in between. For several years Richard battled finding the right mix of chemistry and patience. In 2004 the sun beamed down and graced us with Amber. One of our most popular glazes, few have mastered the balance that our Amber brings. Along with the crystals which bring life to all our glazes, the Amber will bring warmth, beauty and something to talk about into your home.

This blue makes us think of fun times, exotic trips and jubilant experiences. Bahama Blue is the color of blue lobsters, brilliant skies, carnival rides and deep Maine oceans. The way this glaze pools in the bottom of the bowl makes it's observer feel as though it were possible to dive in.

After a long Maine Winter, comes the mud, small buds of green and welcome signs of renewed life. Our Honey Green glaze is inspired by the joyful spring season. Catch it in the right light and you will see a hint of golden honeys and sky blues that “Mainers” look for when sitting by their windows – Colors that are indicative of Spring’s arrival.

The most difficult glaze we create, the Copper Red has generations of history. This is the first glaze that helped define Richard as a Master of Chemistry and Glazing. The difficulty with red is that it can become pink and purple due to conditions we have no control of. Conditions like the weather, the humidity, and then there’s the kiln. In order to produce brilliant reds, you have to have a seasoned kiln. Richard built our current Red Kiln 15 years ago, and with patience it has produced thousands of spectacular pieces, all of which now add the growing history of the Copper Red glaze and Edgecomb Potters.

This glaze is for the “Snow Birds” who flock to Maine in the summer, and fly away to warmer climates for the harsh winters. And for the year-round Mainers, Tropical Paradise is what we dream of during those winter storms. Vibrant landscapes, aqua tinged oceans and white sandy beaches. This glaze captures the essence of the tropical islands and we hope, will get you through the winter no matter where you spend it.

Watermelon Tourmaline is a unique crystal found in Maine which have a curious green skin mixed with shades of pink. It is the first gemstone to be mined in Maine. Edgecomb Potters has simulated the effects of the tourmaline crystal that may exhibit as many as three to 4 different shades. Like each unique tone found in each tourmaline crystal , this watermelon tourmaline glaze on our porcelains captures the ultra beauty of the Maine tradition in daily function and use.

“The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And Miles to go before I sleep, “ -Robert Frost
There is nothing quite like a winter storm in New England. The woods become calm and still, yet when cast in the darkness of a moon-lit night still casts an iridescent glow. Our Winter Storm Glaze captures this beauty and is unmatched by anything else. The stark contrast of black, white and a touch blue make this one of our more contemporary and elegant glazes.
